ORAL PRESENTATION

Yeah it’s over! But I think I could improve on my presentation skills. I was so nervous and it got worst when I saw Wan Yu expression while I was presenting. I stumble a couple of times and spoke too fast throughout the presentation. But it took me tones of guts to agree to the group and did a skit. Although the skit was a bit exaggerative, I believe that our group did manage to put across the main points. However due to the humor, the audience might not realize that the humor contains a main point. Overall, I was happy with the group presentation, it was unique and I believe some of the humor remains in the audience mind after they left the class. I hope we did brighten their day.

P.S To Daniel and Yuka, you guys were fantastic.

  1. The skit was indeed creative, and your use of humor quite provocative. I thought as actors you all did well. I didn't notice problems in your delivery at all, Ayu. In fact, what I witnessed was another side of you, quite the playful sort.

As for the main points coming through, well, yes and no. Please see my comments on Daniel's post. I don't mean to sound too critical, really. I do think that it was possible for some of your main ideas to get lost in the farcical nature of it all.

In any case, I'll give more info to your mail address.

    Thanks again for your effort!

  2. Hi Ayuni

Here are some comments from the three of us:

The concept borrowed from the Noose was original and refreshing. It certainly took group effort to coordinate and execute that presentation style! The presenters managed to engage the audience with good use of humour throughout the presentation. During the Q&A session, presenters answered knowledgably and confidently.
There were slight glitches between transitions but the three presenters remained professional and did not show visible signs of discomfort.
However, the use of acting may have caused the audience to lose focus and forget the true purpose of your presentation. When important points are being presented, it may be better for the presenter to go straight to the point instead of incorporating them into a skit.

Personally, I found you to be confident when presenting. Despite what you mentioned, I detected no major signs of nervousness. However, I agree with your own analysis that you tend to speak too fast at times. This is something which you can improve on. Better eye contact with the audience would be good too. Nevertheless, you were acting and maybe the lack of eye contact was deliberate. Hope this will help you improve.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Duane,

Thanks for the evaluation and comments. I do agree that the idea was refreshing but some how the audience was ot able to capture our main points.

If given the opportunity to present again, i will try to have more eye contact with the audience and speak slower.

  4. Hey Ayu! :)

Yeah I share your relief that the oral presentation is over and done with too!

Hmmm no worries. I think even the most seasoned presenters still reflect on things which they think they can improve on after their presentations, let alone us!

I think it's important not to get intimidated/distracted by the crowd. Wan Yu's expression could possibly have been due to the fact that yours was really a rather out-of-this-world presentation indeed! :)

Yes, more eye contact would have been better, and you probably could have paced your delivery a bit more. I also do think that there was an overdose of humour though, which unfortunately detracted a bit from the main objective of the presentation.

Nevertheless, I salute you and your group members for having the courage and making the effort to make your presentation interesting! :) I really appreciate that. See you tomorrow during class!

  5. Hi Mark,

Thank for the comment. Thanks for the credits too. Yap..I guess eye contact and clarity of my speech is one of the important aspects in giving a good presentation. Will keep that in mind and improve on that for my next presentation. :)
