Every Beginning has its End.

It has come to the end of the semester which means it’s the end of the journey for ES2007s. Just like most of my classmates, I took this module as it has no exams and it took me only a few points to bid for this module. I decided to bid for a different class from my other friends who were taking the same module, so that I will have he opportunity to get to know new friends and worked with different group of people. And looking back, I did not regret making that decision.

Initially I felt slightly intimidated attending the class. However, Brad being fantastic tutor and having such a lovely group of classmate makes me look forward for the upcoming classes. The content of the module was very relevant and practical. I do believe that I manage to gain much knowledge about the different aspects and forms of communication. In addition, I managed to gain self confidence.

Looking back at my previous post, it amazed me how interested I was in discussing communication related issues. Since the 1st day I learn how to write, writing complete sentences is something that I would LOVE TO AVOID. I guess that explains why I’m in the Mathematics department.

I guess this is the only module that I am not very consent about the grade that I will get at the end of the day. As I believe that knowledge and experience gain from this module is incomparable to the grade that will be written in my result slip.
Before I end my very last post, I would like to thank Brad for all the knowledge about communication, making the class interesting, very interactive and the guidance. And to all my classmates, thanks for all the encouragement and the comments. I had never experience such a class in NUS were everyone was so friendly and willing to help one another. A million thanks to everyone. ALL THE BEST FOR THE EXAMS.

  1. Hey Ayu,

It is great to know that you have learnt so much from the module. I do agree with you that this module is very practical and useful, and the things that we have learnt are definitely applicatble a long time after we leave the classroom.

Yes, we have learnt so much more than communication, overcome our own comunication barriers and made so many more friends.

Thank you for making a fantastic effort in the project and the oral presentation, it was indeed a joy to work with Yuka and you.

Hope to see you more at Maths lectures next semester!

  2. Hey Ayu, i have to agree with you and Daniel on how practical this module is. I'm sure as Math students, you guys enjoyed it:)

I was very happy with how we managed to have very productive discussions for every project meeting, without any feelings of negativity being stirred in the process. All thanks to ES2007S that has trained us to be more receptive to others' opinions and to give positive criticisms.

I admire the way you never say no to additional workload during the project despite having so many school commitments.

Thank you for the wonderful teamwork, Ayu.

Terimah kasih! (<--- is that spelled correctly?)

  3. Hi Ayu,

I am glad you learned so much from this module and I am sure the rest of us did too. The skills, knowledge and experience gained from this module will definitely help us in the future. Looking back, I don't think I had the chance to work with you a lot in class except just now where we brainstormed about the questions for the impromptu quiz. Even though the time was quite short, I certainly enjoyed working together with you and all the talking/gossiping we did after completing our task. It has been a pleasure knowing you and all the best with your teaching career. :)

    Semoga awak dapat mencapai impianmu.

  4. Hello Ayu a.k.a. FREAKYDOLL-NUMBER-TWO!

I must agree with you that it was slightly intimidating at the beginning of this course, having to speak up in front of everyone in class during our twice-weekly discussions (we never had such a culture in engineering!). However, it gradually got easier and more comfortable as our class is, as you have said, superbly friendly, helpful and acceptant to everybody! (: I am glad to have the chance to know all of you better and seeing the fun side of everyone as we go through the different activities such as the mock job interviews and the presentations, which reminds me to tell you that I am really not angry k!! I read your previous post on your oral presentation and I am really sorry if it (my expression which I don’t really know what it was) had affected your presentation. People usually tell me that I look fierce when I do not smile or when I am not talking so maybe that is why you thought I was offended! I think I was kind of relieved that day after my group’s presentation and was a little blanking out after all that nervousness. So please do not think I was offended it any way yup! (:

All the best to you Ayu, for your teaching career and continue to be the sweet person you are! (:

    Cheers!

  5. Hey second freaky doll in class,

I guess most of us bid for this module because it is non-examinable, only to realize what a wonderful module it is later on. Sad that it has all come to an end, but as always all good things must come to an end. It is nice to know that you are not a grade conscious person and the most important thing for you is the knowledge you gained. All the best for your future

  6. hello AYU,

Yes i must agree it is indeed slightly intimidating to have to express our views in front of the entire class whom we barely knew initially. I guess Brad did an awesome job in breaking us into different groups everytime; it deifintely facilitated us in getting to know each other better! I got to know you more only near the end of the class, but having to "interviewed" you and seen your group's fantastic persentation, then i realised you are one demure and patient character- extremely helpful and sweet person in fact! When I said teaching is the job for you, i really meant it!

You are right about how it is not the final grade that counts, it is the amount of things we take with us at the end that matters. All the best to you, to your teaching career and everything you do!

    xoxo

  8. Hey Ayu,

Thank you very much for your post and all the praises. I'm happy that even after the course has finished, you're glad that you made the decision to join it. You have been an important member of the class thanks to your soft-spoken but cheerful disposition. It was also good that you have given us insights into your cultural background that were important as we discussed related topics.

Finally, I really am thankful (and humbled) that you think that some of my approaches to teaching might be useful to you in the future when you become a teacher. Here are the two key words, Ayu: Firm but friendly!

Keep well, and all the best in your future! (When you do become a teacher, I want to hear how you fare...that's the beauty of being connected on Facebook!)

  9. Hey Ayu,

I apologise for the really late post! I just wanted to tell you that you've been a great person to work with, though we have little contact. In the beginning, Brad used to poke fun at you a lot, coercing you to talk. I felt a little bad for you that he did that, but after hearing what you have to say, I'm glad he did.

Seeing you act like freaky doll was so unexpected and I could really see the growth and your personality come 'alive' :)

All the best in your future endeavours Ayu, and stay pretty and gentle!

p.s. never ever forget that moment in time when Cher was so bent on winning taboo. that's our shared memory! :)

  10. Hello Ayu!

I'm glad this module has help you open up and feel more comfortable in voicing out your thoughts in lessons, as much as it helped me! I guess it is all about the skills we get to take home at the end of the day, isnt it?

It is such a shame that I didnt get much chance to work with you in class, but hope we can keep in touch! All the best to you, our future educator! Keep your cool and awesome attitide!
